Cavium Networks Forms Partnership with Wind River Systems
  • Partnership speeds time to development for customers using OCTEON™ Network Services Processor and Wind River General Purpose Platform
  • Cavium Networks leverages Wind River Professional Services, ensuring seamless integration

Santa Clara, Ca. - September 13, 2004 -- Cavium Networks, the cost and performance leader in content and security processing, today announced that it has formed a partnership with Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:WIND), the global leader in device software optimization (DSO). Through this partnership, Wind River Professional Services will integrate and optimize Cavium Networks OCTEON Network Services Processor (NSP) to support the Wind River General Purpose Platform, VxWorks 6.0 Edition. Cavium Networks also announced today the OCTEON Network Services Processor, the industry's first single-chip Network Services Processor family based on the MIPS64T architecture.

OCTEON NSPs deliver high-performance Layer 3 to Layer 7 networking functionality with a standard software-programming model. The OCTEON NSPs are being designed in to a wide variety of OEM networking equipment including routers, switches, network-edge appliances with Firewall, VPN, IDS, Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam functionality, secure intelligent switches with SSL, WLAN switches, content switches, XML switches, intelligent NICs and storage applications.

Cavium Networks OCTEON NSPs will support the Wind River General Purpose Platform, VxWorks 6.0 Edition, which will include the next generation of Wind River's industry leading real time operating system, VxWorks 6.0. The Wind River General Purpose Platform will also include new features that complement the OCTEON NSP such as MMU-based memory protection, open standards and advanced error detection. Other Wind River products that will support the Cavium Networks OCTEON NSP include the Wind River Workbench and the company's hardware assisted development tools.

"Through our rich partner ecosystem, Wind River supports a broad range of processors, which enable its customers to develop and run their device software better, faster, at a lower cost and more reliably, " said John Bruggeman, Chief Marketing Officer for Wind River. "Cavium Networks' new OCTEON processor coupled with Wind River's market-leading Platform eliminates the need for design engineers to spend time on hardware and software integration, allowing them to focus on rapidly building the next-generation of content-aware networking equipment."

"Cavium Networks OCTEON NSPs are the industry's first processors that enable high-performance, secure Layer 3 - Layer 7 network services with a standard software programming model," said Rajiv Khemani, Vice President of Marketing of Cavium Networks. "Through our partnership with Wind River, we are enabling our customers to leverage Wind River's proven Platforms and technology on our multi-core MIPS-64 based OCTEON NSPs."
