ACavium Networks Delivers Industry's Highest Performance IPsec and SSL Security Modules with US Government FIPS 140-2 Level 3 Compliance
Cavium Networks NITROX FIPS APIs compatible with Cavium Networks non-FIPS boards
Santa Clara, CA, November 10, 2003 -
Cavium Networks, the cost and performance leader in security processing, today announced NITROX XL NFB, a FIPS 140-2 Level 3 compliant PCI-board for accelerating SSL E-Commerce and IPsec VPN security applications. The NFB Board uses Cavium Networks award-winning NITROX security macro-processor to deliver the industry's highest FIPS performance of 12,000 RSA operations per second with 500Mbps of symmetric encryption throughput.
The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 is the U.S. National Institute for Standards and Technology's (NIST) latest security standard for cryptographic modules. It has also been adopted by the Canadian Security Establishment (CSE). FIPS 140-2 conformance is required for sale of products implementing cryptography to the US and Canadian governments, and this standard is being increasingly embraced by rest of the international community. Additionally, the April 2003 enforcement of HIPAA (Health information portability and accountability act) and the implementation of Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act require higher levels of protection for medical and financial personal data – which is driving the requirement of FIPS 140-2 protection in customers' systems
“FIPS 140-2 Level 3 is a robust and highly secure standard for a hardware cryptographic module that requires tamper-evidence, and tamper response or hardening, along with identity based authentication in a production-grade product,” said Syed Ali, president and CEO of Cavium Networks. “We are pleased to extend our industry-leading portfolio of security macro-processors and accelerator boards with a FIPS 140-2 Level 3 compliant solution that will help our customers deliver products with stringent security into the high growth federal, health-care and financial markets.”
Cavium Networks FIPS 140-2 Level 3 Board Benefits
Cavium Networks NITROX XL NFB board is the industry's highest performance solution that is compliant with the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Levels 2 and 3. The NITROX NFB is a 64-bit/66MHz 3V/5V PCI board housed in a secure, tamper-proof enclosure, with all components fully encompassed within the cryptographic boundary. If the enclosure is compromised in any fashion, all keys are cleared. This FIPS board delivers 12,000 RSA or 20,000 Diffie Hellman operations per second and over 500Mbps of DES, 3DES, AES, ARC4 bulk encryption throughput for IPsec or SSL applications. Cavium Networks NFB also includes storage for 100,000 concurrent SSL sessions and 4096 private server keys. A serial interface to PIN entry devices (PEDs) is provided as a separate trusted-path administration interface for FIPS Level 3 configurations.
Software Functionality and Product Line API Consistency
The Cavium Networks NITROX XL FIPS Accelerator board has software APIs compatible with all other Cavium Networks Accelerator boards. This enables OEMs to implement a common application software architecture across their product line. Linux and FreeBSD drivers along with open-source SSL implementation are available for the NITROX NFB board. Driver software code is also provided in an operating-system independent format to easily port to other operating systems.
Product Pricing and Availability
The NITROX XL NFB is available immediately for evaluation and development. NIST approval for FIPS140-2 Level 3 conformance for this board is expected in 2004. Pricing for the FIPS PCI SSL Accelerator board is $6,900 in quantities of 100
