Cavium Networks closed $8M first round of funding
Cavium Networks to develop next generation security processors to enable the new Internet security infrastructure
San Jose, CA. - June 27, 2001 -
Cavium Networks, a fabless semiconductor company enabling the new Internet Security Infrastructure has closed $8 million in first round of funding last quarter (Q1, 2001). Investors include Alliance Ventures, Diamondhead Ventures, Beachhead Capital, Appleseed Partners and other leaders in the networking industry.
Cavium Networks has assembled a world-class team of seasoned professionals from the semiconductor, networking and security domains to deliver solutions that will help propel the security-processing infrastructure into the 21st century. Cavium Networks products will deliver unprecedented performance while slashing the cost and complexity of deploying security. Beneficiaries of Cavium Networks technology include SSL accelerator cards, SSL termination load balancers & switches, VPN gateways, SAN/NAS equipment and other networking devices processing security protocols.
Currently the Internet has evolved into an essential medium of communication and commerce to become a part of our everyday lives. Today's IP networks carry billions of dollars worth of commercial transactions, intellectual property and other data unprotected, which could lead to it becoming compromised. However, existing Internet infrastructure like, routers, switches, load balancers, web-servers, firewalls etc. are not equipped to handle security protocols at wire speed. This imbalance is referred to as the Security Infrastructure Gap.
"Cavium Networks is a semiconductor company that was formed to help propel the security infrastructure into the 21st century," said Syed Ali, CEO and President of Cavium Networks. "Cavium Networks vision is to enable a totally secure and trusted Internet by eliminating the Security Infrastructure Gap."
Existing security chips only address a specific part of the problem that moves security-processing bottlenecks to other parts of the system. Cavium Networks is developing a next generation "Custom Security Processor" that will eliminate system bottlenecks by accelerating the whole protocol and enabling its vision of cost effective "Security EverywhereTM."
