MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.,
Sept. 17, 2007 – Cavium Networks
(NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of highly integrated semiconductor
products that enable intelligent processing for networking,
communications, storage and security applications, today announced
the new OCTEON XL NICPro2 accelerator card family for secure
network services and compression acceleration in Appliances,
Blade Servers and Storage Systems. The OCTEON XL NICPro2 accelerators,
based on the OCTEON Plus CN58XX processor family, provide
industry-leading acceleration performance up to 10Gbps with
either fiber or copper interfaces in a single PCI slot form
factor. OCTEON PCI-X accelerators and 4-port GbE NIC accelerators
have been deployed in a broad range systems including: L4-L7
switches, WAN optimization appliances, Session Border Controllers,
Ad-insertion and Storage Appliances.
Cavium Networks’ OCTEON XL Accelerators are on display
at the Intel Developer Forum, San Francisco, Sept 18 -20,
2007 and Cavium Networks is participating in a panel discussion
at IDF about trends of networking and application acceleration
processors.
Application Acceleration for all x86 Appliances,
Blade Servers and Storage Systems
With the rapid increase in network traffic and the deployment
of secure intelligent services, x86-based networking and
storage equipment require high-performance hardware acceleration
to maintain line-rates. The OCTEON XL Accelerators offer
multi-gigabit hardware acceleration for Compression/Decompression,
Pattern-matching (regular expression), IPsec/SSL/SRTP processing,
Intrusion prevention (IPS), Anti-Virus processing, Data-at-rest
security for storage and TCP termination.
The OCTEON XL NICPro2 Line of Accelerators
The Cavium OCTEON XL NICPro2 Accelerators are available
in a full-height, full-length, single-slot 64-bit/133MHz
PCI-X form factor. All accelerators support the OCTEON Plus
CN58XX processors with up to 16 MIPS64 cores, which include
integrated hardware acceleration for TCP, encryption/decryption,
compression/decompression, and pattern matching. These accelerators
also provide a powerful set of additional features, including:
- Four ECC-protected Mini-DIMM DDR2 slots providing up
to 8GB capacity
- Four RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet ports or four SFP ports
enabling copper or fiber support
- Up to 512MB RLDRAM2 (optional)
- SPI4.2 connector enabling multi-card cascading –
providing a dedicated datapath between accelerators without
utilizing PCI-X bandwidth
OCTEON XL accelerators enable industry leading performance
for a broad range of functions:
- Compression/Decompression performance of up to 10Gbps
for GZIP, PKZIP and variant protocols with unmatched compression
ratios. Compression ratios exceed 4:1 for typical web
traffic, which are up to 2x that of alternative solutions.
- TCP, SSL, and IPsec processing up to 14Gbps
- RSA Performance of up to 24,000 RSA operations/s.
- Pattern matching performance of up to 5 Gbps
OCTEON XL Accelerator Card Software Support
The OCTEON XL card family is supported by a rich set of
x86 host system software, including a portable PCI-X driver
with standard LINUX support and C-language API’s for
offloading compression/decompression, SSL, TCP, pattern
matching, and crypto processing.
For users looking to add proprietary processing features
to the OCTEON XL accelerators a full software development
kit for OCTEON Multi-core MIPS64 processors is available.
Cavium Networks’ Software Development Kit includes
Linux, GNU tool-chain, GDB development environment and popular
third party tool-chain and development support that enables
thousands of C/C++ applications to be easily ported. For
fast-path and data-plane applications OCTEON also supports
a C-language thin executive to remove operating system processing
overhead. Additionally, Cavium Networks provides APIs and
production quality source code software toolkits for IPsec,
SSL, SRTP, TCP, Anti-Virus, and IDS/IPS stacks for customization.
OCTEON is also supported by third-party standard operating
systems including Linux®, WindRiver® Linux or VxWorks®,
and MontaVista® Linux.
“Cavium’s OCTEON XL accelerators have delivered
leading performance and enabled rapid time-to-market for
customers using x86 based platforms,” said YJ Kim,
Director of OCTEON Marketing, Cavium Networks. ”OCTEON
XL NICPro2 provides higher performance, lower power consumption,
and increased flexibility and also enables deployment in
blade server and single-slot configurations through an innovative
thermal design.”
Availability and Pricing
Samples for OCTEON XL NICPro2 accelerators are available
in October. Pricing starts at $1495 in 1K quantities.
