GE Fanuc Embedded Systems Introduces Packet Processor AdvancedMC™ Module

Telum™ NPA-3804 AdvancedMC module is designed for high throughput deep packet inspection and processing

Albuquerque, NM. January 25, 2007 – GE Fanuc Embedded Systems, a leading provider of embedded communication solutions, expands their already extensive line of AdvancedMC™ modules with the Telum™ NPA-3804 intelligent packet processor AdvancedMC module for security and network packet processing applications.

The Telum NPA-3804 is an exceptional modular package optimized to meet customers’ most challenging performance and thermal requirements with secure high-speed connectivity and complex packet processing at wire speed performance. Compute-intensive tasks are off-loaded from host CPUs keeping line rates high and enabling content aware packet processing for a variety of applications such as NAT (Network Address Translation), traffic policing management, SSL security, gateway routing, and call session management.

This AdvancedMC module is one of the first cost-effective packet processors that is available now for customers and is ideal for compact MicroTCA systems.

“We are pleased that GE Fanuc Embedded Systems is deploying OCTEON technology in real word applications in a processor AMC module. Cavium’s OCTEON multi-core MIPS64 processors are an excellent fit for the AMC form factor with leading performance and functionality within required thermal limits. As a market leader in AdvancedMC products, GE Fanuc Embedded Systems is enabling rapid deployment of next generation features and services through their new product,“ said Amer Haider, Director of Strategic Marketing, Cavium Networks.

“We see a need for a secure IP communications and multi-gigabit packet processing in all segments that we serve, including the communications, military and commercial markets.” said Rubin Dhillon, GE Fanuc Global Director of Embedded Communications Products. “The Telum NPA-3804 is the first product in a comprehensive line of packet processing products from GE Fanuc Embedded Systems. These new products will deliver to our customers deep packet inspection capabilities to help them effectively manage high traffic flows in a secure manner.”

The Telum NPA-3804 Intelligent network processor AdvancedMC is available with either an 8 core or 12-core Cavium OCTEON multi-core MIPS64 processor @ 500MHz with 512MB or 1000MB high-speed DDR packet memory. For network connectivity flexibility, this module is available with 4 front panel or rear I/O 1000BaseT copper or 1000BaseSX fibre ports.

In keeping with today’s environmental requirements, the Telum NPA-3804 is RoHS-compliant.
