Cavium Networks Announces US Government Certification of Industry’s Fastest FIPS 140-2 SSL and IPsec Security Accelerator Cards

NITROX™ XL NFB Cards Achieve FIPS 140-2 Level 2 & 3 certification to enable High Performance, High Security Government, Financial and Healthcare Applications

Santa Clara, CA, March 28, 2005 – Cavium Networks, the leader in content and security processing with the industry’s broadest product line, today announced that its NITROX XL NFB Acceleration cards received the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) FIPS 140-2 Level 2 and 3 certification. The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 is the U.S. government’s stringent security standard for cryptographic modules. It is widely recognized as the benchmark for the highest levels of security assurance and is being rapidly adopted by both government agencies and secure private industries such as finance, banking and healthcare. Cavium Networks NITROX XL NFB accelerator cards are being integrated into a broad range of networking products including SSL enabled L4-L7 switches, SSL VPNs, application aware gateways and integrated security appliances.

“This FIPS validation of our accelerator cards, certified for the latest set of US Government guidelines, enables our customers to address new high-growth markets in the Government, Finance and Health Care sectors by providing a complete, high assurance and secure solution,” said Rajneesh Gaur, Director of Marketing at Cavium Networks. “We currently have several leading customers shipping with our FIPS 140-2 certified cards.”

Cavium Networks’ NITROX XL NFB FIPS 140-2 family includes three different cards with 64-bit/66MHz PCI interfaces, housed in a secure, tamper-proof enclosure. These cards combine the unmatched performance of Cavium Networks’ NITROX security processors, and the government certified strength and security of the FIPS 140-2 standard in single hardware and software package. The NITROX XL NFB family ranges in performance from 3500 to 10000 RSA OPS and up to 500 Mbps bulk encryption and SSL record processing performance. This is the only FIPS Certified family of accelerator cards that provides bulk encryption acceleration for DES, 3DES, AES and ARC-4. Cavium Networks NITROX XL NFB also includes secure storage for 100,000 concurrent SSL sessions and 4096 private server keys. A serial interface to PIN entry devices (PEDs) is provided as a separate trusted-path administration interface for FIPS Level 3 configurations.

The Cavium Networks NITROX XL NFB Accelerator cards are software compatible with existing Cavium Networks Accelerator boards. This software compatibility feature enables OEMs to implement a common application software architecture across their entire FIPS and non-FIPS product line. Cavium Networks offers these cards with feature rich C code, software development kit and reference application software that enables OEMs to significantly reduce their cost, complexity, and time to develop FIPS certified products aimed at high-value, high-security government, financial and healthcare applications.
