Co-inventors of SSL and IPsec and an Ethernet Visionary join forces with Cavium Networks

Paul Kocher, Stephen Kent and Rich Seifert bring their vision and expertise to Cavium Networks Technology Advisory Board

San Jose, CA. November 5, 2001 - Cavium Networks today announced that industry heavyweights in Internet security and networking are working with Cavium Networks engineers to create industry leading network and e-commerce security solutions. Cavium Networks NITROX security macro processors enable system vendors to build the next generation of secure networking equipment like routers, switches, web-servers, server load balancers, firewalls, SANs, and VPN gateways.

"Cavium Networks was created to eliminate the security processing bottleneck and slash the cost of deploying security," said Syed Ali, President and CEO of Cavium Networks. "I am excited to welcome prominent visionaries such as Paul Kocher, Steven Kent and Rich Seifert to our advisory board. Their experience and insight will help Cavium Networks stay at the leading edge and deliver state of the art network and e-commerce security processing solutions to market."

Dr. Stephen Kent is well known as co-author of the IPsec standard. In addition to his numerous contributions to Internet Security standards, he chairs and is member of leading organizations within IEEE, IETF and the US Government.

"IPsec is the critical, enabling standard for businesses looking to rapid VPN deployment and killer applications like SAN/NAS," said Stephen Kent, Chief Scientist of BBN Technologies. "The wire speed performance and comprehensive IPsec packet processing of Cavium Networks NITROX processor provide an excellent basis for creating products that will enable IPsec-based security to become ubiquitous."

Paul Kocher has international reputation for his work in cryptography. In addition to co-authoring SSL v3.0, he designed a record-breaking DES key search machine and is leading efforts to improve the security of smart cards and other devices.

"Security is not just about fast encryption but also includes delivering a complete security system incorporating strong protocols, robust key management and high assurance. Adding security to networking equipment like SSL servers and content load balancers will require special processors," said Paul Kocher, President of Cryptography Research. "Cavium Networks unique NITROX processors provide a complete, feature rich solution with unparalleled performance and a low cost of deployment."

Rich Seifert was one of the original designers of 10Mbps Ethernet and is the co-author of numerous IEEE 802.1, 802.3 and 802.4 standards. He has also authored best selling books on Gigabit Ethernet and LAN switching. He is currently working on Gigabit Ethernet products, SAN technology, and routing silicon.

"Service Providers are looking to deploy profitable IP services to enable them to recoup their huge investment in network infrastructure. Value-added services like VPN and secure e-commerce are not only profitable to the service providers, they also provide real benefits that enterprise customers are willing to pay for," said Rich Seifert, President of Networks and Communications Consulting. "As a result, networking equipment vendors are accelerating the incorporation of high performance IPsec and SSL processing capability into their edge router and server products. A high performance and flexible solution like Cavium Networks NITROX is key for OEMs looking for a wire speed, feature rich security processor solution."
