Cavium Networks Demonstrates Industry-Leading Price-Performance and Scalability for Enterprise and SMB Storage at Storage Networking World, Fall 2009

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 12, 2009 – Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of highly integrated semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage, wireless and video applications, today announced that it is demonstrating the processing power of the OCTEON™ multi-core MIPS64 storage processors at the Storage Networking World Conference, Oct. 12 – 15, in Phoenix, Arizona. OCTEON’s Intelligent Storage Service Processors (SSP) are being designed into and targeted for an array of storage applications in the cloud infrastructure such as JBOD, NAS, iSCSI and FC SAN, Data De-Duplication, and VTL.

Traditional storage system architectures utilize a centralized host processor for storage application processing along with JBODs. Currently there is unprecedented demand for virtualized, cloud computing storage to scale elastically, boost storage efficiency and consolidate SAN and LAN on a single Fabric, for decreased cost and increased flexibility. Additionally, moving data freely, without compromising security, is a critical requirement of the cloud infrastructure. An IO centric architecture with distributed and secure storage processing in each storage sub systems is essential to address these demands of increased scalability, capacity and secure services. Cavium’s OCTEON SSP with its compelling Price-Performance, Scalability and Features is designed to drive the widespread adoption of this intelligent IO centric architecture.
