Cavium's PureVu™ Media Processors Power Acer's New Line of Wireless Monitors

Las Vegas, NV, Jan 10th, 2012 – Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications and the digital home, today announced that Acer’s new line of WiView wireless monitors have integrated its low latency PureVu™ CNW6611 media processor to enable wireless media connectivity.  Based on standard 802.11n WiFi technology, this new wireless display functionality will initially be offered in the 24” and the 27” models, starting in Q1 2012. The integration of Cavium’s PureVu chip in Acer’s wireless monitor enables HD video over WiFi from desktop and notebook PCs. Live demonstrations of Acer’s new wireless monitors are available at Cavium’s suites at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, between Jan 10th and 13th.

Acer’s new WiView monitors leverage the flexibility and performance of the PureVu CNW6611 media processor to support real-time HD content projection from desktop and notebook PCs using wireless display protocols, as well as file-based DLNA content streaming from a digital media server on the home network.  These monitors can receive high definition content from desktop and notebook PCs which have been enabled with a simple transmit software application.

The versatility of these monitors stems from CNW6611’s flexible media processing architecture.  This high performance subsystem is capable of 1080p multi-format video decoding, advanced audio processing, and 2D graphics capabilities for displaying a broad range of media files and user interface menus. The low latency video decoding pipeline is optimized for full interactivity.  The video post-processing engine can provide sophisticated frame rate conversion and scaling features, enabling optimal display of various content up to 1080p resolution.  In addition, the ARM-based subsystem provides the flexibility to support different media streaming and wireless display connectivity protocols. The combined performance of the media and ARM subsystem ensure highest quality video and graphics overlay for any type of content, including movies, text and gaming.
