|Cavium's ARM-based ECONA SoC Powers D-Link's Routers
D-Link Expands its Cavium-based Products to Include a New Line of Unified Service Routers
Las Vegas, NV, Jan 10th, 2012 – Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, and the digital home, today announced that its ARM-based ECONA SoC is fueling a range of D-Link Small to Medium Business (SMB), Virtual Private Network (VPN) routers with some of the industry’s most advanced network and security features. The first release of this product series is the DSR-250N router, which D-link is now shipping to its Small and Medium Business (SMB) customers. D-Link’s new line of SMB VPN routers are powered by Cavium’s advanced ECONA™ processor family with one of the industry’s most scalable platforms targeting low-, mid-, and high-end Consumer and SMB router and network attached storage (NAS) markets. Live demonstrations of D-Link’s ECONA-based DSR-250N router are available in Cavium’s suite at CES between Jan 10th and 13th.
With the growth and transformation of the Internet into a commercial infrastructure, the ability to provide secured connections between multiple sites and manage traffic priority is becoming as important for SMB customers as is the rapidly increasing bandwidth demand. In order to minimize their investment, SMB IT managers would like to address both trends using a common platform with the same network equipment. Based on Cavium’s ECONA SoC, D-Link’s new DSR-250N is a prime example of such a platform, delivering high-performance Unified Services Router functionalities that can connect multiple offices with high throughput VPN connections and Gigabit Ethernet and wireless LAN connectivity. Ideal for SMB and home gateway applications, Cavium’s ECONA processors are uniquely architected to provide the best combination of performance per dollar and performance per watt in the industry.
“D-Link selected Cavium’s ECONA processors for its sophisticated and robust networking and security features. Equally significant is the complete software solution provided by Cavium, which was instrumental in reducing the time-to-market for our product,” said ML Jean, Senior Director of Switch and Security Product Division at D-Link.
“We strive to provide our customers with best-in-class, energy efficient solutions for high- performance SMB networking and storage products,” said Hanh Nguyen, General Manager of the Digital Home and Office Division at Cavium. “With ECONA, we offer a competitive edge in performance and power dissipation, better integration, and CPU architecture that permits off-the-shelf Linux porting.”
Cavium’s ECONA family of highly integrated ARM-based SoC processors offer a rich set of integrated hardware accelerators and a range of I/Os for glueless voice and data connectivity. With industry-leading performance in cryptographic operations, network throughput, QoS and energy consumption, the ECONA family of products are ideally suited for high-performance wireless routers, broadband home gateways and NAS devices.
